The Commissioner
Hon. Sunday Inyima, the present Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources in Ebonyi State, was born on 22nd January, 1970 to the family of Chief Michael and Mrs. Mary Inyima of Ugum village in Ngbo, Ohaukwu L.G.A now in Ebonyi state. His educational career started at Ugum-Ngbo Central School, where he had his primary education between 1976 and 1982. He passed out into Boys' Secondary School Umuhuali in Nkalagu, Ishielu L.G.A. for his post-primary education which lasted till 1998. In the same year, youthful Sunday Inyima secured admission into Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, to study Cooperative and Rural Development.
He began his civil service career as the Adult Education Organizer for Ohaukwu L.G.A in the old Enugu state. By dint of hard work, Hon. Inyima rose through the ranks to the position of Head of Personnel Management in Ebonyi State Local Government System. In 2004, the Governor of Ebonyi state spotted his leadership qualities and consequently appointed him as Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area. He later returned to Ebonyi State Local Government System as Director of Personnel Management - a post he held until August, 2007 when he voluntarily retired, leaving in his trail an enviable spotless record of service.
With this solid grassroots background, Hon. Inyima contested the Ohaukwu L.G.A Chairmanship election in 2007 and won. He took oath of office on 1st November, 2017. In November 2008, he won the National Local Government Merit Award as the Best Performing Chairman in Ebonyi state. Following his creative approach to the development of the land and people of Ohaukwu, the people of Ohaukwu requested him to contest for second term. He obliged them, contested and won; thereby breaking the jinx of second term in the history of Ohaukwu council area. Hon. Inyima's six-year reign as Ohaukwu council chairman left a memorabilia of over 100 water boreholes, asphalt of the entire Okwor Ngbo market ring road, a standard ICT centre, the Chairman's official quarters, asphalt and landscape of the council secretariat, a turn-around renovation of the 43 buildings that made up the council secretariat among others. It was under Hon. Inyima's tenure that Effium community for the first time received genuine attention in terms of development from Ohaukwu council authority. In appreciation, Umuezeokohu people of Effium gave him the chieftaincy title of Ekfu Eme I.
In 2015, the eagle-eyed governor of Ebonyi state, His Excellency, Chief David Nweze Umahi, appointed this icon of administration as Honourable commissioner for Lands, Survey and Housing in Ebonyi state. Hon. Inyima's innovative approach to land administration was responsible for the smooth sail of the usually difficult process of land acquisition. His capacity to adapt to duties and even learn new things made Inyima a civil engineer, a surveyor, an architect, a town-planner and an administrator rolled into one! Hon. Sunday Inyima is creative politician; a recipient of Paul Harris Award and the Peace Ambassador of the United Nations Organization. This workaholic Ebonyi State Commissioner for Water Resources had served as Ebonyi State Commissioner for Boarder Peace and Conflict Resolution in 2018. This was why he was able to steer his ministry to excel in the interpretation of the vision of Ebonyi wonder-working governor in practical, tangible terms. This factor has endeared the vibrant commissioner to his boss as well as Ebonyi people.
Hon. Sunday Inyima's sociability defies age, status, religious and racial boundaries, hence he is seen as a human bridge between the young and the old, social strata and races. His hobbies includes football, cultural dances and athletics.
Hon. Sunday Inyima is married to Queen Ogechi Inyima. The marriage is blessed with five children namely, Fortunate, Great, Gold, Goodluck and Excellence.
