ACHIEVEMENT OF THE MINISTRY BEFORE AND NOW

TARGET OF THE MINISTRY

  1. Construction of an ultra-Modern Stadium.
  2. Construction and the provision of Sporting facilities in the 27 Pilot Schools of the State.
  3. Rehabilitation of dilapidated facilities at NYSC Orientation Camp, Afikpo.
  4. Purchase of Sporting equipment for Girls Technical School Agba.
  5. Constructions of cover stand for Abakaliki Township Stadium.
  6. Painting and Decoration of Fence Wall (Mural Art Work) of Abakaliki Township Stadium and environs including some streets of the capital city.
  7. Procurement of a Hiace Bus for the Ministry.

TThe Ministry of Youth and Sport Development since inception has achieved a lot for Ebonyi state. They are:

ACHIEVEMENTS

  1. The present Administration of the State under the able leadership of Engr. David Nweze Umahi FNATE, FNSE through the Ministry has given Sports a New lease of life by total Reconstruction and overhall of the Abakaliki Township Stadium to an enviable Status.
  2. The continuation of the Mural Art Work/Repainting of the Fence Walls of Udensi Street, Uga Street, Fatha 1 Road, Onwe road through Spera-in-deo including Government House Fence Wall as well as International Conference Centre.
  3. The Ministry had the first ever Ebonyi State Sports summit.
  4. The Ministry also organised an Intra-State Unity Football Competition in the State involving people from all States of the Federation who are residents here.
  5. Through the Ministry, the Government of Ebonyi subsidized the meal of Corps Members during Orientation at NYSC Orientation Camp for Batch A and B respectively.
  6. The Ministry also aided technically in the organisation of the first ever Urban Sports Festival which was organised and sponsored by the urban dwellers. It was indeed a success being the first ever of such competition since the creation of Ebonyi State. Urban dwellers were by this brought together as one family both the Indigenes and Non-Indigenes.
  7. The Ministry has been able to register a good number of community based voluntary Youth Organisations to operate within the law.
  8. The Ministry also aided technically in the 2017 Akubaruoha Urban Sports Festival which was organised and sponsored by the urban people.
  9. Continuation of the Ministry in partnership with NYSC on the Sponsorship of EBOSACA has been able to train HIV-Aids Peer Educators during Orientation at NYSC Permanent Camp Old Maigregor College Afikpo.
  10. Organised the Akubaruoha Urban-day Festival in collaboration with the urban community.
  11. The Ministry monitored the even deployment of Corps Members from Orientation Camp to Public and Private Schools especially Secondary Schools. This is aimed at bringing to an end the issue of over Concentration of Corps Members in the urban areas.
  12. The State Government through the Ministry sponsored the State Contingents to the 2nd National Youth Games held at University of Ilorin, Kwara State in which Ebonyi State came out 7th position in the Country.

OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS

  1. A total of 1,500 Ebonyi youths participated in a 3 day seminar for Ebonyi youths on dangers of thuggery and electoral violence with the theme “ overcoming the challenges of realizing free and fair elections in Nigeria” from 22nd – 24th March, 2011.
  2. Ten (10) Ebonyi youths participated in the presidential launch of the SSURE-P at banquette hall, ASO Rock Villa Abuja in February, 2012. The programme aimed at generating employment for the youths.
  3. One thousand two hundred Ebonyi youths participated in a 3- day seminar to educate and sensitise youths from Ebonyi state on the federal government YOUWIN Programme that is youth empowerment with innovation in Nigeria held from 8th – 10th may, 2012 at WDC Abakaliki. The program IS targeted at unemployed youths with sound business idea who are accessed by independent professionals. The website is www.youwin.org.nig. It is a programme of the federal ministry of youth development in collaboration with federal ministry of finance and communications . Youth can win a grant of between N1m - N 10m to scale up existing business. Already 17 Ebonyi youths have been successful in that business .
  4. The ministry of youth development and sports has also keyed into the federal government not (MDGs)youth in agriculture projects of Nigeria. Ten (10) LGAs have u undergone a week long training at Songahia centre Sapele, delta state.
  5. More than 300 ebonyi youths have been trained and equipped in different skills from 2007 till date in the area of confectionaries , tailoring, soap/ pomade making , bee keeping , tyre and dye, poultry and, crop production , fishery, snail farming , rice farming , sheep? Goat and cane rat farming including co-operative and entrepreneurship.
  6. The national directorate of employment has been partnering with the ministry of youth development and sports in the area of youth empowerment. The NDE in the recent past has trained and empowered more than 2000 Ebonyi youths on entrepreneurship and trades. The youths were trained in the following areas:
    1. Electrical works
    2. Welding
    3. Agricultural and agro allied services
    4. Hair dressing
    5. Tailoring/fashion design
    6. Metal works and fabrication
    7. Soap and pomade making
    8. At the end of that training the youth were given equipment and materials to start on their own.
  7. The state government has been very supportive of the NYSC IN the state by way of formal assistance during their orientation programme corps.
  8. Some Ebonyi youths were sent to Songahia farms in Benin republic for training in different fields of agriculture . on return , these youths were given some financial grant s as start- up capital.
  9. The state government through the office of economic empowerment and poverty reduction in collaboration with the state chapter of the national youth council of Nigeria established fish farms in the 3 senatorial zones. Unfortunately, the fish farms have gone moribund.
  10. The ministry of and sports sponsored 12 Ebonyi youths from 6 youth farmers multipurpose cooperative societies spread across the 3 senatorial zones to a national capacity building workshop in diversified agricultural production, processing, and marketing held at NYSC camp, Nkwere in Imo State. After training, each of the cooperative societies got N40,000 as start-up capital and as well as materials for the take- off.
  11. Following the in petroleum products subsidy, an employment package known as subsidy reinvestment and empowerment and empowerment program (SURE - UP) was launched in 2012. The idea about SURE- UP is to create employment opportunities for up to 370,000 youths and young women in the 36 states and FCT i.e. 10,000 jobs per state and FCT.
  12. In November, 2012, the state ministry of youth and sports sponsored 10 youths on a 5- day national training training workshop on skills development.
    Leadership / citizenship and value re- orientation for youth entrepreneurs in Sapele, delta state as venue. Thereafter, each of the 10 participants was given N 200,000. As grant for their individual farm projects.
  13. In November, 2013, the ministry of youth and sports sponsored a director of youth development on a 2 – day stakeholders. Pre- review consultative meeting on the national youth policy.
  14. In jelly 2014, the ministry of youth and sports sponsored 5 Ebonyi youths randomly selected from 5 LG A s on trade and Entrepreneurship training for out – of school youths for period of one month. The participants were equipped after the training to start their individual businesses courtesy of the Nigeria educational research and development council.
  15. The national youth council of council of Nigeria, Ebonyi state chapter is the umbrella body of all voluntary youth organizations in the state.
  16. The state government organized the first state sports summit by March, 2015
  17. The state government organised urban sports competition by July, 2015
  18. The state government organized 2015 national youth week day celebration by August, 2015
  19. The state government organized sports 2015 sports festival.
