Commerce department as a key department in the Ministry is charged with the responsibility of carrying out the under listed functions:

2. Trade matters (Including Trade Fairs, Exhibition and Promotion)
3. Supply of essential commodities.
4. Trade and Export Promotion matters.
5. Trade regulations
6. Market research and commercial feasibility.
7. Trade Information and price intelligence.
8. Trade Associations and Chambers of Commerce.
9. Registration of Business premises.

The commerce department is in charge of the International Market located at Onuebonyi, and International trade centre along Ezza Road, Abakaliki (almost at completion level).
